Where do we go from here?

Updated: Apr 13, 2018

After the whole Children's hospital extravaganza... Our little ninja finally showed enough consistent weight gain and we are home! Easton continues to gain weight which confirms that tube feeding is the right move for us.

Right now Easton is on a continuous feeding system. This means that he is always hooked up to his feeding pump and gets 25 mL (almost an ounce) an hour. This does not mean that we cannot go anywhere, we are still very mobile thanks to the supplies from Pediatric Home Services.

For now, we are waiting for a few problems to resolve themselves as he grows. His reflux should improve as he gets older. As his stomach and throat matures, the reflux should slowly dissipate. When that happens, we will repeat the swallow study and work with a feeding specialist on his swallowing and aspiration. While we wait, we have exercises to work on with Easton to keep his mouth sensitive as well as work on his swallowing without putting him at risk of aspiration.

In the next month or two, the littlest ninja has a lot going on...

- Weekly weight checks in Grand Rapids

- Follow up with GI specialist in Minneapolis

- Follow up with feeding therapist in Minneapolis

- Evaluation with Neurologist in Duluth

- Surgery to switch out g/j-tube with g/j-button

As of now, Easton is the happiest I have ever seen him! We hope to continue to see weight gain!

Emma, thank you for creating this blog. I'm so happy to hear things have stabilized for Easton. Stay strong and when that's really hard I know you'll then to that wonderful support system you have!
