Not the worst not the best

Just a quick update about Easton!

He has pneumonia... not sure yet whether it is from aspiration or a bacteria. Easton is super prone to aspiration pneumonia becuare of his swallowing issues. We had a good stretch since his last bout of it so I thought we had moved past it. On the other hand, his body isn’t good at fighting infection so bacterial pneumonia isn’t that far out of the picture.

His ears looked so good yesterday, but today they didn’t. They were starting to look red and inflamed. So, double ear infections as well.

The thought is that Easton had a cold, one that he has had for awhile. At some point Monday or Tuesday, he either came into contact with bacterial pneumonia or he aspirated an oral feed or his reflux into his lungs. Since his body was already busy fighting, it made him pretty sick.

His blood work isn’t great, a lot of elevated or low levels. His vitals aren’t fantastic either. His fever is still hanging around which gives him a very high heart rate. We had a small scare last night when his heart rate spiked and set off his alarms as his Tylenol wore off, but it came back down.

His lungs don’t sound good due to the pneumonia, but his cough is more indicitive of something like croup. We are following up early next week in hopes that the pneumonia will be clearing up and we can make sure the congestion and wheezing isn’t due to anything else. There is also concern of a GI infection as well.

For now, WE CAN STAY HOME!! He will be on a few antibiotics that will probably have to be switched next week. Hydration is key, so we are focusing on that and rest. Easton, as always, is a smiley boy even when he doesn’t feel great!
