Lil E goes to Duluth... and we do some double checking!

Last Monday we traveled to Duluth to see a Neurologist at St. Mary's Essentia. You may be asking why Easton needs to see a Neurologist?

If you have been following us for awhile, you may have seen I had a tricky pregnancy and was diagnosed with cytomegalovirus or CMV. We are so grateful that I contracted the virus around 29 weeks. When CMV is passed to a fetus early in pregnancy, it can be very detrimental. CMV causes many issues including head and brain abnormalities and birth defects. Even though I caught CMV later in pregnancy, there is still a risk.

At the neurologist, Easton was evaluated with a multitude of tests. they tested his muscular range and how well he held his head up in different positions. They tested his eyes and ear and a bunch of other things. He was also weighed... but I will talk about that later. Our neurologist was very pleased with hell Easton did regarding his neurological functions.

However, they would like to do a brain scan to insure that there are no calcifications in his brain, which is very commonly caused by CMV. Most likely, the test will come back completely normal. However, if there are calcification it may explain why Easton has such trouble swallowing. It would not really change any treatment though.

For this brain scan, the Little Ninja will have to be under general anesthesia. He also needs to be put under for his Peg to Mic-key surgery. Becuase of this, the Duluth neurologist has connected with our GI team at Children's to do these at the same time so we do not have to put Easton under anesthesia twice. This means instead of his surgery being on May 30th... it has been switched to June 8th! We cannot wait for this surgery!

So.... his weight. Easton was weighed at the neurologist and we were shocked. He weighed in at only 9lbs 3oz. I was crushed by this because the week before he had been 10 oz up from that. A large portion of my time is dedicated to getting Easton to gain weight. So a set back like this was disheartening. BUT we double checked his weight with our regular pediatrician. Turns out the scale at his neurologist's scale was calibrated differently or was off compared to our pediatrician's and he actually weighed

10lbs 5oz!!!!
