Good News, Bad News, and No News

Before any news, THANK YOU for all of the support! I apologize if I have not gotten back to you if you contacted me recently. Easton has needed pretty hands on care and I am away from my phone a lot. Also, a huge thanks to Kary for visiting today and keeping us company. Also, shout out to D.P. Dough for having amazing Cheese Stix available on Uber Eats!

Well, today I'll start with the good news, Easton is getting back to his happy self, or trying to at least. His eyes have perked up and we got a couple of giggles. His fever has stayed at bay for over 24 hours and we have weaned of the ibuprofen. We are staying up on the Tylenol for discomfort and to keep the fever away.

The no news portion of today, his cultures from yesterday haven't shown anything. Also, his cultures from Sunday are still inconclusive for what type of bacteria. This could mean it is an uncommon type or multiple types of bacteria. We are currently using two different very strong antibiotics, trying to cover our bases until we can narrow down the bacteria type.

The bad news, Easton developed a blood clot right up next to his PICC Line that we confirmed with an ultrasound, which Easton promptly fell asleep for. This is what has been causing him a lot of discomfort during his antibiotic infusions. For this, we will start Lovenox injections twice a day, which we will continue at home to prevent further clots. Along with these injections, his PICC line will likely have to be removed. The combination of the infection and the clot has most likely compromised his line. This means he will have a normal IV fluids and be off his TPN until his cultures are clear for 24 hours. After that, he will get another access point placed, whether that be another PICC line or something more permanent like a port.

Another thing that I have gotten a lot of questions on Easton's g/j tube and how that all works when it gets displaced. I have added a picture of his old tube to try and illustrate what it should do. The portion that is supposed to be in his intestines migrates into his stomach, and is then able to interfere with his airway even.

Again, thank you for all the support! I will update you all further on the plan for the PICC line, tomorrow. Easton and I love you all!
