The Unexpected

Updated: Apr 13, 2018

"What To Expect The First Year: Tube Fed Addition" Oh how I wish that was real...

Tough boy in the ER!

In the hospital, we learned what to expect. We learned how to deal with the pump and the tubing. We learned about g tube site cares and giving medicines. There are new daily schedules and exercises. there are weekly and scheduled appointments. But those are all EXPECTED. We knew that these changes would come with Easton getting his tube.

Lately, we have run into some unexpected things.

Last Friday, Easton's J-Tube got clogged. (insert dramatic sound here) It was terrifying. I was home and tried everything I could to get it unclogged. Nothing worked and Easton was getting hungry and cranky. So, to the ER we went. They almost couldn't unclog it. THANKFULLY after many hours of trying, they were able to unclog the tube and flush it. We resumed feeding and all returned to "normal".

The little ninja before his appointment! Happy even though he wasn't feeling 100%

THEN, Saturday morning we woke up to a crabby boy. When I administered his medication and cleaned his tube site, I noticed some granulation tissue. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT google that. It is gross when it gets bad. It is the body's response by trying to heal around the g tube. It is skin, that is angry and bleeds, blistering up by his site. Gross. But it is also very painful for the little ninja. He is so strong though and is happy through the pain. SO that required another doctor's appointment this week.

As we keep keepin' on, I am sure we will run into so many other unexpected things.

Maybe one day somebody will write that book... but I am sure there would still be plenty of surprises!

Keep checking in! GI appointment in the cities is on MONDAY!
